Mr. Obama Obstructed Investigation in a Notorious Terrorist Group to Help Get His Treaty with Iran

Hezbollah is a murderous terrorist group that is interested in more than just obliterating Israel. It is a pox on the Middle-East and anywhere else it chooses to extend its extremist and violent form of Islamic ideology. It is also supported by Iran which makes that nation complicit in terrorism. Hence they should both be treated as such. Tragically, Mr. Obama used one to promote his goal of being able to claim success in coming to an agreement with the other.

In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation.

There’s the crime. Here’s it’s method of execution:

The campaign, dubbed Project Cassandra, was launched in 2008 after the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed evidence that Hezbollah had transformed itself from a Middle East-focused military and political organization into an international crime syndicate that some investigators believed was collecting $1 billion a year from drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering and other criminal activities.

Over the next eight years, agents working out of a top-secret DEA facility in Chantilly, Virginia, used wiretaps, undercover operations and informants to map Hezbollah’s illicit networks, with the help of 30 U.S. and foreign security agencies.

A president with integrity would support the DEA and not derail its work in order to be able to claim he got an agreement on nuclear weapons with the very nation that sponsors Hezbollah. But that is what Mr. Obama did.

Politico continues as it exposes the despicable behavior of the Obama Justice Department:

But as Project Cassandra reached higher into the hierarchy of the conspiracy, Obama administration officials threw an increasingly insurmountable series of roadblocks in its way, according to interviews with dozens of participants who in many cases spoke for the first time about events shrouded in secrecy, and a review of government documents and court records. When Project Cassandra leaders sought approval for some significant investigations, prosecutions, arrests and financial sanctions, officials at the Justice and Treasury departments delayed, hindered or rejected their requests.

And we know the reason for all of this: To placate Hezbollah’s sponsor, Iran. And the reason for that was to successfully negotiate the dubious “Nuclear Deal” that was vital to Mr. Obama’s agenda. To be blunt, he was willing to give one of the evilest and murderous terrorist groups in the world a pass to be able to claim success in getting a deal with Iran. This is criminal.

The Washington Beacon brings encouraging news that Mr. Obama’s crime might be exposed such that his facing criminal charges could actually become a possibility.

Congress instructed the Department of Justice on Thursday to turn over all documents and communications that may be related to newly disclosed efforts by the Obama administration to handicap an investigation into the terror group Hezbollah and its Iranian benefactors, according to a letter sent to Attorney General Jeff Sessions obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The letter represents the first salvo in a new investigation by congressional leaders into allegations senior Obama administration officials thwarted a decade-long Drug Enforcement Agency investigation into Hezbollah’s illicit operations.

The Obama administration, in what congressional insiders described to the Free Beacon as a “potentially criminal” enterprise, interfered with the DEA’s investigation into Hezbollah drug activities in order to avoid angering the terror group’s chief patron Iran and preserve the landmark nuclear deal.

And there it is. Could Mr. Obama actually be hung out to dry for his crimes in this scandal? We know that he should be.

Since Mr. Obama refuses to allow himself to be held accountable, we must hold the Republicans accountable in aggressively pursuing this investigation. And it must really be aggressive — aggressive enough that the evidence produced cannot be ignored.

Then we’ll see Mr. Obama squirm as he and his legal staff try to defend against a mountain of evidence implicating him.
