In 2011, the home of Jason and Laura Hagan from Nodaway County, Missouri, was raided by police without a search warrant.
They proceeded to taser the father, pepper spray and slap the face of the mother, throw them both in handcuffs, threaten to kill the family dog and then seize the children, placing them in the custody of social services.

The public should not have to pay police misconduct damage awards or settlements. If police were personally responsible to pay damages, they would be less willing to risk trampling on people’s civil rights. As it is now with the public picking up the tab, there is no motivation whatsoever for change or improvement. They will keep doing whatever they feel like, content to let the public pay for it later…
