Over the last several years the feminist movement has clearly become more radical and more alienating to those who previously may have been more inclined to support it.
If the feminist movement adhered to the strictest definition of the word — that men and women should have equal rights — it would be difficult to find many people in the 21st century who oppose feminism. But today’s radical feminist movement goes well beyond that basic definition, making it to where only the most extreme liberals are welcome.
In the civilized world today, not many people would say women should not be allowed to drive, vote, own property, earn equal pay, and have the rights to the same education as men do. But today’s feminism is less about those rights and more about extra privileges. Today’s radical feminists want abortions — abortions without term limits. Oh yeah, and they want those abortions without term limits to be free.
Considering what it means to be a feminist in the 21st century, it raised quite a few eyebrows last Thursday when PBS announced that their newest muppet on popular kids’ show, Sesame Street would be a feminist. Not just any feminist, but a hijab-clad Muslim feminist.

Doesn’t sound like most people read it.
I agree Jeremy. Laura, first of all, it’s a muppet, not a cartoon. Second, a message of equality for women in countries that treat women as property is always a good thing no matter how many people it reaches. Do I count myself among the libs for thinking this? Absolutely not, being a conservative doesn’t mean I have to jump on the bandwagon when posts like this are meant only to fan the fires of fear and hatred in our country, I’ve had quite enough of that. If you thinking trying to further the message of equality for all is a bad thing then I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree, but I urge you and everyone else for that matter, to not be fooled by those who deliver messages of fear and hate. Pull the wool off of your eyes and become a shepherd not a sheep.
Stupid..anything for a buck I guess..
One of the points in the article is that being a feminist means something completely different there than it does here. A feminist there just wants to be treated like a human being. Here it’s all about free abortion.
Don’t let them watch
Chris Compton I just say that it is futile! Why not something geared to the women in their society that will actually hit the target audience? And, to me, muppets are cartoon characters in puppet form. I certainly would not consider them educators unless you are a liberal.
It may be an exercise in futility, but they are in fact hitting their target audience. They produce that show for toddlers and preschoolers, and instilling the idea of equality during those formative years is worth a shot in my opinion, if you don’t plant seeds you will never harvest anything.
In one word – muslims are insidious, never trust
No!!! Why are you forcing Muslim migrants on us???
No sesame Street for my kids
