NBC tries to present itself as a trustworthy news outlet, and a moral authority on the leftist perceived “evilness” of President Trump.
But in a case of deflection that could be lifted out of a page of Rules for Radicals, it is instead being shown that NBC and the other members of their little leftist media propaganda gangs are the true defilers of our nation.
Variety magazine conducted a two-month investigation into the rumored going-ons of NBC Today show host, Matt Lauer.
What they found was not pretty.
Matt Lauer was not only a famous man, a wealthy man but also a married man. As such, he just couldn’t walk around harassing women or engage in extramarital affairs with the people he encouraged in his everyday life, outside of the workplace. But, within the doors of the NBC offices, he was a king. Nobody working up the NBC ladder was keen on jeopardizing the precious advertising dollars their biggest star, Matt Lauer, was bringing home to the network.
This gives context to why a man of Matt Lauer’s stature restricted his deviant ways to the confines of the NBC family, and why they let him get away with it for so many years.
Variety starts out their expose by highlighting this very fact.
As the co-host of NBC’s “Today,” Matt Lauer once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present. It included an explicit note about how he wanted to use it on her, which left her mortified.
On another day, he summoned a different female employee to his office, and then dropped his pants, showing her his penis. After the employee declined to do anything, visibly shaken, he reprimanded her for not engaging in a sexual act.
One almost finds it hard to wrap their minds around how confident Lauer was in his formally protected position at NBC.
And it extends well beyond the usual realm of creepy.
Lauer, who was paranoid about being followed by tabloid reporters, grew more emboldened at 30 Rockefeller Center as his profile rose following Katie Couric’s departure from “Today” in 2006. His office was in a secluded space, and he had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up. This afforded him the assurance of privacy. It allowed him to welcome female employees and initiate inappropriate contact while knowing nobody could walk in on him, according to two women who were sexually harassed by Lauer.
There really is no reason for anybody to have a button like that installed in their desks. Yes, it is not uncommon for high-up executives to have buttons installed for opening and shutting the doors BUT not for locking. That is just a whole new level of alarming that if indeed proven to be true will incriminate others at NBC for their compliant cooperation.
Variety reports this was allowed to go on for so long because as we’ve already stated, he was the star of the network.
Several women told Variety they complained to executives at the network about Lauer’s behavior, which fell on deaf ears given the lucrative advertising surrounding “Today.” NBC declined to comment. For most of Lauer’s tenure at “Today,” the morning news show was No. 1 in the ratings, and executives were eager to keep him happy.
Even though network executives have now done the right thing and at least attempted to go about resolving these HR complaints, they still might be writing him a paycheck.
It’s not clear if NBC is paying Lauer through the end of his contract, which expires in 2018. Lauer couldn’t be reached for comment.
