The word ‘supervolcano’ conjurs up an image that is still far short of the incredible scale of what lies beneath Yellowstone park. One description of this behemoth starts to paint a picture:
It has the ability to expel more than 1,000 cubic kilometers of rock and ash at once — 2,500 times more material than erupted from Mount St. Helens in 1980, which killed 57 people. That could blanket most of the United States in a thick layer of ash and even plunge the Earth into a volcanic winter.
The Yellowstone supervolcano lies under three states: Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana, but in the case of an eruption, 21 states would be affected, with 5 of them covered by the kill zone!
The potential for widespread devastation and loss of life is incredible, but is it something to worry about? NASA scientists think so, but they believe there is an answer: Next Slide
I knew u were messing with the
Weather!!!!
I say we have the government place into effect immediately an earthquake ban! After all an earthquake like that could kill more people than all the people who have died from gun violence! But I doubt if it would be as many that have died from medical malpractice!
