Confronted with the problem of violence against police after the Dallas shooting, Obama has sidestepped the issues of lawlessness and criminality in order to harp on the need for increased police training, a policy that may has opened the door to the federalization of law enforcement agencies all over America. Ruffalo’s petition, which increases the demands placed on local police departments by federal authorities, could easily be a stepping stone towards such a plan.
Unfortunately for Ruffalo and Obama, the number of impressionable liberals who voiced support for the petition and the sentiments it expressed was matched by the number of pro-police Twitter users who poured derision on it and mocked him for sharing it:
