When 8-year-old Elijah Burrell intercepted a pass and scored his first touchdown for his team, the Black Knights from Lawrenceville, Ga., he inadvertently caused his team to receive a $500 fine and their coach be suspended for a week.
Why?
Because of a very leftist-minded imposition on the game called the ‘Mercy Rule’, which doesn’t permit a team to score more than 32 points over the other team.

Just more leftist pathology.
Not good for kids. Play to win, but be good sports about it.
Hopefully more of this c**p will be overturned when we get things more normalized.
Teaching these kids to be no more than average is a bad idea. I can understand not intentionally running the score but this does not fit that scenario. Besides, why does it matter I’m sure they’re still going to get their trophies at the season end.
This is absolutely stupid! Mercy rules and participation trophies. They will eat away at our American pride and begin the destruction of us all. Better to learn life isn’t always fair when you are young. Learn to loose with dignity , and LEARN from it! I’m ashamed this happened in my beloved State of Georgia.
When my son played peewee ball they had this same stupid rule. Once his team reached the 32 point spread the other coaches on the other team would move our players into positions they didn’t play ( offence positions to defensen positions etc. ) and his team still went undefeated for the season . He had awesome coaches that loved the game and loved the kids they coached .
Tell shove their 500.. Up their ass
I am happy when my kid’s lost their games. Teaches them they have to “WORK” and “Do Their JOBS”!
You should go play Ring around the Rosie or go fishing if you want to not keep score.. Winners are winners for a reason. Losers, well.. Better luck next time, try harder and prepare like the winners do. Life isn’t fair, so why set those kids up for failure?
Idiocy…so let’s ruin his moment of triumph…why didn’t they just stop the game since the other team was being beaten so badly? This is a ridiculous rule!
You play the game to win! If the opposing team can not stop you from scoring, so be it! That’s life and that’s how you learn to be both a winner and loser.
There should be no mercy rule in any sport.
