There are so many radical Islamic groups that we seldom take the time to figure out where each one came from. Part of the problem stems from the fact that there is more than one variety of Islam, and some of those sects seem to have as much animosity toward each other as they do toward non-Muslims.
ISIS is one that can be difficult to figure out. In fact, depending on who’s discussing the group, they might be called ISIS or ISIL. Whatever they chose to call themselves and regardless of who are their allies and enemies, they seem to have burst on the world stage with a vengeance and rose in both prominence and in infamy.
Could the US actually have supported this group much like it supported Al-Qaeda during its campaign against Soviet occupation decades ago? More on page two.
