America’s independence as a sovereign nation and our liberties as a free people are never safe when George Soros is active. Unfortunately, that’s most of the time as his fortune in the billions enables him to be a major player in US and global politics.
Part of his agenda involves weakening the nation-state, hence he is a supporter of open immigration and borders. As such, he runs up right against President Trump. Still reeling perhaps from his candidate’s defeat in the general election, his money is hard at work bankrolling efforts to thwart Mr. Trump.
More than a dozen lawsuits and counting have been filed against President Donald Trump’s executive order that temporarily blocks visas from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and Yemen. Looking beyond the handful of emotional personal stories that are gaining the media’s sympathy, there is a more predictable political power dynamic at play. The lawsuits largely stem from organizations bankrolled by billionaire leftist George Soros and Democratic state attorneys general.
None of this should come as a surprise to anyone who follows Soros even casually. This is a man who bankrolled protests, some of the violent, over President Trump’s victory.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who has carried out a political vendetta against Trump, led 15 other state attorneys general in a joint statement condemning what they called an “unconstitutional, un-American and unlawful executive order.” The Democratic AGs also said, “Religious liberty has been, and always will be, a bedrock principle of our country and no president can change that truth,” a curious statement from the party that targeted the Little Sisters of the Poor.
It’s gets tiresome having to refute the lie these Democrats insist on telling that equates this ban on travel from these seven countries with bigotry against Muslims. Not only have leaders of other Muslim nations stated that it is not an attack on their faith, but if Trump wanted to block Muslims, he certainly bungled things by not banning travel from some of the nations with the largest Muslim populations. And there has been no abridgement of anyone’s “religious liberty.”
What do we know about Mr. Soros’ activity in promoting these lawsuits?
Leading the way in these lawsuits in several states is the American Civil Liberties Union, which has gotten at least $35.5 million from the Open Society Foundations, according to the Capital Research Center, a Washington think tank that investigates nonprofits.
Soros also gave $4.6 million to the National Immigration Law Center, which has been involved in litigation, according to the CRC; and $621,000 to the Urban Justice Center, which has an appendage known as the International Refugee Assistance Project that has jumped into the lawsuits, according to the CRC.
It’s so nice of Mr. Soros to be so concerned about the alleged “rights” of immigrants to enter the United States and to use his fortune on their behalf. One wonders what his reaction will be should some of these immigrants turn out to be members of ISIS or some other terrorist group. It’s unfortunate that Mr. Soros does not have the best interests of Americans at heart.
He should return to his native Hungary and see how that works out.
