Utah Jazz player Kyle Korver penned an op-ed for the Players’ Tribune where he said that all white people should be held accountable for “inequality” and “racism” in America and cited several incidents that he alleges are examples of racism in and out the NBA, focusing on his reactions that included being ’embarrassed’.
“What I’m realizing is, no matter how passionately I commit to being an ally, and no matter how unwavering my support is for NBA and WNBA players of color … I’m still in this conversation from the privileged perspective of opting in to it,” he wrote. “Which of course means that on the flip side, I could just as easily opt out of it. Every day, I’m given that choice – I’m granted that privilege – based on the color of my skin.”
Turn the page for Korver’s take on how white people should take responsibility for racism that is “at the heart of nearly every major issue in our country today.”
Lonnie Fisher I understand but there but is but one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus.
And Jesus Christ says ” He who does not love his Brother……does not love, The Father”…..”Love one another, just as i have loved you.” Paul says” for sure God is not partial. But every man woman and child, from every tribe, national and tounge, willing tobdo his will, is acceptable to him”. He’s mediated this already…what are we going to do?
SMDH and its b******t like that, that is part of the problem.
That has what to do with accountability. Biblical repentance requires action. You can’t just apologize. You must MOVE to correct a wrong that has been made. This country hasn’t done that for the people of color. Yet want us to forget. Unfortunately, at the rate we are being kidnapped, gunned down and imprisoned this is highly unlikely.
You are an IDIOT
I am responsible for my actions only
No one else’s
GOT IT
It is right for a white person to think about what they can do to improve the situation for another. We all should feel that way regardless of our color. Some people are born pretty some are ugly. People will always react differently to different people. What does this have to do with responsibilty for the actions of our forfather’s?
Still race haters all throughout the world. Not just America. I rather live in America than anywhere else. ⁷Try going overseas and put a USA sticker on your travel bag. I flew to Holland and they advised me to take the sticker off and I am not even caucasian. Just live in America, Land of the Free. At least we do have the 1st Amendment. Here, I said my peace.
Well then are the black Africans responsible for there ancestors selling other blacks into slavery?
Maybe youre promoting racism by your divisional standards. I believe in equality no matter what skin color we all bleed red.
so by that token all black people are responsible for their forefathers that captured other blacks and sold them to the slave traders. There were more than white people involved in the slave trade and FYI there was no real SLAVERY in the USA until a freed black man who served out his INDENTURED SERVITUDE and then when he got his own servants decided he wanted to keep one of them in perpetuity and took it to the Supreme Court and had his servant declared PROPERTY….read a book or two moron
P**s off you idiot. You being white can you even shoot hoops. Lord knows you cant jump. You owe NBA a apology.
As a biracial woman who lived during the 60’s and dealt with severe racism during my teens, I dont look white or black but I’ve heard it all from both sides. I have straddled that fence my entire life and this is one of the most honest and truthful essays I’ve ever read. This is the start of change, recognition and acceptance of the past to change the future. Thank you
I respect Korver for that.
