“Know the Enemy:” 11 Revealing Quotes From Vladimir Putin

The role of the Russian government from the point of view of the West is that we hope that they eventually see the light and come to the global community with contrition and obedience to start a new and lasting relationship.

Of course, their view is somewhat different.

That being said, the former Soviet Union is on the horizon.  Putin has made overtures to many of the former states and has been attempting to get them on board with at least entertaining the notion of a new Soviet Union, either through lucrative trade deals or outright intimidation.  Whatever your take, Putin’s mind is set and he is on a specific course to see it through.  If you doubt this, you have not been listening.

On Russia’s Role in the World:  “Russia is a country with a thousand-year history and has almost always enjoyed the privilege of a sovereign foreign policy.

We are not going to betray this tradition today. At the same time, we are well aware of how the world has changed and we have a realistic understanding of our own opportunities and potential. We would like to interact with responsible and independent partners with whom we could work together in constructing a fair and democratic world order that would ensure security and prosperity not only for a select few, but for all.”

Our efforts to secure a fair and democratic world is through one tunnel and one tunnel only:  the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).  There is no room for bullies like the United States or the EU, who somehow believe they are superior to everyone else because of their initiatives and policies, but believe me, they are as fallible as any other country in the world.  No one is perfect…least of all, those with superior power.  We will not be cowed or bullied.  We have a very rich history and survive to this century simply based on a desire to put our stamp on the world that we helped shape its destiny.  And we are willing to ensure that its destiny includes us and our trading partners as those highest on the totem pole.
