“Know the Enemy:” 11 Revealing Quotes From Vladimir Putin

If you’ll recall, we talked on a previous page about the special relationship that Russia holds with Europe, a bond that goes back in time to extravagance and monarchy.  Its political system is a direct descendant of that way of thinking and reflects ties that cannot be separated from on a widespread basis.

On Russia’s Political System:  “Monarchy was a legacy passed down from the Empire to Soviet times, even though the plaque on the building changed. Only at the beginning of the 1990s, events came to pass which laid the foundation for a new stage of Russian development.

Certainly, you cannot imagine that we can instantaneously get the same government model, the same structures, as in the United States, in Germany, in France. Society, just as every living organism, has to develop stage-by-stage, organically. That’s the normal development process.”

TRANSLATION:  You may wish that we fall into line obediently with your ideology and plans for what you imagine the world to look like in the 21st century, but we are a fledgling nation, much like what the United States looked like in the 1700s.  Our new stage in Russian evolution as a government and people must necessarily follow its destiny organically.  We will not be lectured to about how we should act and what type of government we should be encapsulating.  Besides, the Soviet Union will rise again and there’s nothing you and anyone else can do to stop it.

Go on to the final quote on the last page to see Putin’s thoughts on Russia’s role in the world!
