Kerry: “Israel can either be Jewish or it can be democratic, but it cannot be both”

The UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel has passed. The US abstained, thereby allowing it to pass. In fact, it’s clear that the Obama administration helped craft the document, displaying it’s usual brand of duplicity.

Now that is has passed, Secretary of State John Kerry has been trotted out to address the world. Most such speeches are eminently forgettable, but one remark of Kerry’s stands out:

“Israel can either be Jewish or it can be democratic, but it cannot be both,” said Kerry.

It didn’t take long for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to reply:

In a statement in English issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu said: “Like the Security Council resolution that Secretary Kerry advanced in the U.N., his speech tonight was skewed against Israel.”

The Israeli leader said Kerry “obsessively dealt with settlements”, which the United States strongly opposes, in the speech. Netanyahu accused Kerry of barely touching upon “the root of the conflict – Palestinian opposition to a Jewish state in any boundaries”.

American commentator and talk show host Ben Shapiro didn’t waste time commenting either.

It’s a sad commentary of betrayal and subterfuge by the Obama administration in regard to our ally in the Middle East.  But to our friends in Israel we might say, “Don’t feel too bad. Americans have been betrayed repeatedly by Mr. Obama as well.”
