James Comey has had a wild year as FBI Director — but recent developments could make it his last.
Partisan opinion of James Comey has varied wildly over the last twelve months. Early last year, Republicans thought Comey represented their best chance to take down Hillary Clinton. When Comey announced that his bureau would not recommend charges against Clinton, the GOP said that Comey let Clinton off the hook because of her name and title.
Democrats, however, praised the development — until Comey announced that Clinton was once again under investigation one week before election day.
By then, just about everyone had liked or disliked Comey at one point or another — but he has emerged unpopular among Democrats and Republicans alike.
Comey’s latest undertaking, Trump’s wiretapping accusations, have put the director in the hot seat once again.
