The Internet has been buzzing with an article from The New Yorker that got picked up and reported by Fox News on an imminent, massive earthquake that threatens to take down the Pacific Northwest.
It seems that this mega-quake is about 75 years overdue – it has been striking the area for the last 10,000 years around every 240 years.
So it’s not a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’.
When it does strike it will take down everything west of Interstate 5, including Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, Eugene, Salem, Olympia – home to around seven million people.
The coming quake will register somewhere between 8.7- 9.2 and will create a gigantic, 100ft high tsunami that will also cause considerable destruction.

Flyover country.
I am not sure where we would go…. We live in Newport Oregon one of the higher points on the coast and we live on a small hill -away from the ocean on this side of 101 not the water side.. Family in Vancouver, wash and Seattle and Olympia – but sounds like they are all going to be hit as well. I don’t know how “soon” this is to happen. I have had crazy thoughts of getting a raft to hold us and the dogs with life jackets – dont’ know how strong the wind will be… there is no way out of town and the road to the east goes past the bay and a river.. I think I will pray a lot..

The article is wrong – the recurrence rate is more like 500 years (on average). The last big quake was in 1700, so do the math.
That’s like saying the sun will rise in the morning.
