We are living in a time when the due process protections of the Fourth Amendment are more important than ever.
Back in 2012, couple Adam and Jennifer Perry were speeding down an Illinois highway to reach a hearing specialist based in Salt Lake City, Utah who was supposed to treat an ear infection afflicting Adam. Their high speed drew the attention of state troopers, who pulled the couple over.
After a drug dog sniffed the Perry’s car, police searched their vehicle. They turned up empty-handed, with the only thing vaguely resembling the drugs they were looking for being a duffel bag that officers claimed smelled of marijuana.
But they found something else: $107,520 in cash, belonging to the Perrys’.
The officers let them go, but they kept the cash, even though the Perrys’ weren’t charged with a crime or even subject to a search warrant.

Yeah it’s true Illinois steals money from people shocking I don’t know how many times I’ve had to pay for stuff I’ve never been charged for never got my money back Illinois is a crock of s**t
No I’m not a troll. I’m local to where this story says it took place. I saw the sfglobe story when I looked. But who are they. I’ve never heard of them around here locally. And I never said the story was a lie. I asked the question. So why turn liberal and get defensive just because a question is asked.
B******t alert
Do not drive in Illinois with anything of value!
The defensiveness comes from the current attack on conservative sites, branding us as f**e news or russian propaganda. so when someone shows up on the feed alluding to this i will defend and ask who you are. if you are only asking a question great, but the question seemed out of place as i easily found the sfglobe story at the top of the rankings quite easily
Civil asset forfeiture is directly and undeniably against the Constitution. See the 5th amendnent in the Bill of rights.
“nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; ”
Due process is clearly defined as charges being filed and the case heard in a court of law where a suspect can produce witnesses and confront them before a jury of his peers.
Civil Asset Forfeiture is real and happening in every state. You don’t need 100,00 dollars for them to sieze it. If you have 1,000 or any amount and they think you shouldn’t have it…it’s theirs.
A clear violation of the 5th amendment.
