We are living in a time when the due process protections of the Fourth Amendment are more important than ever.
Back in 2012, couple Adam and Jennifer Perry were speeding down an Illinois highway to reach a hearing specialist based in Salt Lake City, Utah who was supposed to treat an ear infection afflicting Adam. Their high speed drew the attention of state troopers, who pulled the couple over.
After a drug dog sniffed the Perry’s car, police searched their vehicle. They turned up empty-handed, with the only thing vaguely resembling the drugs they were looking for being a duffel bag that officers claimed smelled of marijuana.
But they found something else: $107,520 in cash, belonging to the Perrys’.
The officers let them go, but they kept the cash, even though the Perrys’ weren’t charged with a crime or even subject to a search warrant.

“Legal theft ” I Love America
If a police dog alerts to the odor of drugs emminating from a vehicle, a warrant is not needed, nor is consent. If a duffel bag that had drugs in it and now has over $100,000 in it, it is completely reasonable to assume the money was from selling drugs. If the money came from legitmate sources, it would be very easy to prove, and the money would have been returned. I’d be willing to bet that this article has left out some very important facts.
Rick Benjamin do you have a link to that open mic slip?

Road pirates
My father and I were discussing this… I said “suppose in the next several years I am on my way to Montana with a large amount of cash to buy 500 or 1000 acres of land, and some road bandits stop me and tell me ‘oh you have $400,000 in cash, we’re taking it’ you know people get killed over that sort of thing, and if you think you can just steal $400,000 that I worked years to save up, I might just open up with a rifle because it is the right thing to do, to defend what is rightly and properly mine. Our founders tarred and feathered tax collectors sent by the King George III to collect minuscule taxes, if the King sent armed agents to steal their lands, their horses, their mules, their physical currency, it would have resulted in a bloodbath.”
The right thing to do when somebody is trying to rob you and dispossess you of your just lawful property is to kill them and move on in life.
