It’s now legal for men to use women’s bathrooms, showers, and dressing facilities – and vice-versa – thanks to the passing of the Equal Rights Ordinance in Houston, TX.
Mayor Parker, Houston’s first openly gay mayor, called it “most personally meaningful thing I will ever do as mayor.”
The ordinance’s stated goal is to eliminate discrimination in housing and employment for gays, transgenders – 14-characteristics in total – including race, ethnicity, age, religion and disability.

The bathroom section of the referendum was actually dropped.
This is much ado about absolutely nothing.
This statement is a outright deception the ordinance was crafted so they could take out the obvious bathroom reference and not change the unisex nature of restroom use. Also 24 of the 26 cities that make up the Los Angeles metro area don’t have this type of ordinance, it’s a similar situation in the New York City metro area, New Orleans metro area, San Antonio doesn’t have one they are a major city right?
Not true. In a measure to appease both sides, it removed several statements. The ordinance removed a statement essentially saying Transgender people can choose the bathroom they prefer. It also removed a statement that allowed business to refuse use of a bathroom if they felt that person was faking their gender identity.
However, as stated by the mayor, it left the basic law in place, thus not allowing discrimination in use of the bathrooms by someone that self identifies leaving it open for oomplaint and thus legal action under the law.
The first time a business denies a transgender person, a complaint will likely be filed and a suit will probably take place. Businesses will just cave as a measure of self preservation.
So ActualTruth, while the statements were removed, the affect was NOT.
Mayor you are a Jerk!
Well i or my child will never be stepping foot in any public restrooms. Not cool!
I want to sign the petition..and i will go to the courthouse to do so this is bull. more women will be raped and such…like the world isn’t bad or stupid enough. i dont support this at all. Even marriages will break because of this, it isnt right!
You are exactly right. This is much ado about nothing, because it shouldn’t have been brought up in the first place. Men’s restrooms are just that, and women’s restrooms are just that. If you can’t decide which one you are, then use the one your equipment needs. I won’t look, and frankly I don’t care. Give me a break, please. Not very PC.
WHY ARE PEOPLE MOSTLY FOCUSING ON THE RESTROOM ISSUE WHEN IN FACT IT MORE THE 14 THINGS WITHIN THIS RULING ……THIS IS ALL IGNORANCE TO FOCUS ON ONE THING
Totally sick! Maybe now Parker can stand up and pee in the ladies rm. I’m thinking bout moving!! Where do we sign this freak out?
This has nothing to do with human rights!! It’s about preserving common decency. Children should be protected from being exposed to the opposite gender, while utilizing such a personal facility.
Common sense is truly NOT common.
So my daughter can now share a restroom with a man that has to expose himself to urinate. Thanks Houston for making it easier for little girls to be touched or scared to use the restroom. Talk about ignorant. Why can’t they just make a third restroom for those who don’t care.
How effin stupid! Geez
