There is currently a plan to ditch the Electoral College – giving the Presidency to whoever wins the popular vote – and 12 states have already signed on.
“This is disempowering to rural America and empowering to urban America,” states Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt, and it amounts to a “hack” of the Constitution by people who don’t believe in the Electoral College.
Stirewalt also states that without the Electoral College we would have had a whole different trajectory of presidents. With a popular vote presidential candidates would ignore rural areas and focus only on urban centers. The “plan is to subvert the will of the Constitution and the founders.”

Nearly a dozen states have quietly signed onto a plan to effectively ditch the Electoral College and instead, award the White House to the candidate that wins the popular vote.
The National Popular Vote agreement would take effect if states that represent 270 electoral votes all commit. New York has most recently joined the efforts, bringing the number of states to 10 plus the District of Columbia. Altogether, they represent 165 electoral votes.
Without the Electoral College, FoxNews.com digital politics editor Chris Stirewalt said we would have had a whole different trajectory of presidents. If presidents are selected through the popular vote, he said that campaigns will focus on maximizing turnout in urban centers. He said the “plan is to subvert the will of the Constitution and the founders.”

Since there is not enough support in Congress to change the Constitution and officially end the Electoral College, this plan would allow popular vote advocates to work around it.
Stirewalt pointed out that this plan is part of a larger trend on the part of “frustrated” liberals who haven’t been able to bring about the changes they want.
“They are simply taking them. They are simply doing it and if people dissent and if people complain and if the stodgy, old Constitution gets in the way, if the fussy old Whigs in the Electoral College complain about it, too bad. Because they’re gonna hack the code and they’re gonna find a way to get what they want,” he said.
So can this actually happen?
Stirewalt believes there will be significant pushback once people across the United States realize the “deadly gravity of what is being proposed” and if the states move closer to 270.

leave it alone !!!
the popular vote is in the urban cities on the east and west coast, that leaves the middle of America withoiut a voice. that is where the bull$#%&!@* is.
You people that think this is s good idea PLEASE get informed and research it before you get behind it. Besides being COMPLETELY UNCONSTITUTIONAL its a horrible idea. The ‘ one man, one vote’ sales pitch is very misleading!!
I’m ready
It really doesnt matter either way. If they would have performed their jobs according to legal voters they might have mattered but the fact they voted according to voters legal, illegal and dead I would have to say they have proven their uselessness.
The popular vote is usually the stupid way !
Electoral college should be removed. It effectively negates the will of the people as it stands. Remove the electorate. Let we the people choose our leaders. We are the only nation that has an electoral college. The electorate is part of the corruption and part of the whole puppet master program that goes against the will of a free nation’s people.
The founders of our country were wise in making it a Republic instead of a mob rule democracy
In other words, DISENFRANCHISE “rural” voters.
The current system is worse! When 90% of the counties in WA vote for a Republican except 2 counties around Seattle and all electoral votes go toward the winner in those 2 counties. 90 % of the state is ignored. Same goes for all the tax revenue raised in this state. That is B.S.
