The debate over to whom children ultimately belong is one that has been growing in intensity for some decades. It’s actually not all that new, as governments have argued for greater or lesser control over the children within their jurisdictions for millennia. It just so happens that we’ve been in an era of bigger government, hence the desire by some in government to usurp parents’ rights and responsibilities has grown.
Hillary Clinton inserted herself into the debate years ago, asserting that it “Takes a Village” to properly raise a child as she pronounced in her book. This is the leftist position she maintains and continues to promote. Raising children is ultimately up to the government, she avers, as though anyone with his or her children’s best interests at heart would want them to grow up to be like the Clintons.
But it’s not just Hillary who is on the wrong side of this issue. There are many in academia who are proposing similar theories. Pushed to the extreme, it become a policy of either raise your kids within government guidelines, or the government will seize them and raise them for you.
More on where this trend is going is on page two.
Children please stop taking a piece here and a piece there from the life we could’ve had as parent and child.
Well, that’s crazy! Whose children are thet then? The government doesn’t give you (normally) the money to raise them with. They didn’t get here with any government help, I hope! That was between my husband and I…we decide when (sometimes) and where, and we pay for all their needs…we raise them to be good citizens…so whose kids are they, then? Stupid Liberals. OF course, when they are grown, they are still our kids…but they make their own decisions…So what is wrong with that? If they don’t like what their parents do, they can change it when they pay the bills.
You’re right they belong to God. To brought up in the nature and admonition of the Lord.
Oooh kaaay. Other than the fact that we all belong to God, who do you think they belong to? Certainly not to someone who thinks it’s alright to murder them before they’re born, just because you don’t want to keep your knees together!
Well, they certainly don’t belong to any level of government, so who does that leave?
Children don’t belong to the state or the government, either. They belong to God since He created them and allowed the parents to be blessed with raising them. And He gave parents the authority over them. He did NOT give others that authority. Only if they are abusing children should anyone step in to help.
Children belong to their parents and I believe government has overstep their boundaries
This is one of Prophet-Poet, K. Gibran’s revelations in his book, The Prophet: when I first came across this I was offended by it; however, after observing the now third generation of my offsprings, I have to agree that the statement has merit.
I would like to see Guardian reporters personally test this theory
F**k them!
