Gingrich: Congress Must Make Obama Testify on Russian Interference

While the election was underway last year, President Obama found out about Russian attempts to interfere in the election as early as August 2016, but he chose to keep it quiet and not do anything about it

In his interview with Gingrich, Fox host Sean Hannity said Obama did nothing because “he didn’t want to rock the boat” for Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

In response, Gingrich asserted there’s “no question” Congress should compel the former president to testify under oath regarding his handling of potential Russian interference in the election.

There’s no question that Congress should call the former president in to testify under oath to explain what he was doing and why he was doing it.”

Specifically, Gingrich said Congress should find out exactly what the president knew, who advised him on the issue, who was present in the key meetings and why he ultimately chose the course on inaction on the matter.

There’s no question that they should build the case from the ground up. Who was doing the investigating? Who was reporting to the president? Who did it go through? What were the meetings like when they decided not to pursue it? I mean, talk about an extraordinary failure of national security.”

The former speaker said the relevant committees in both the House of Representatives and the Senate should call Obama to testify on the issue. He reiterated his position this morning on an appearance on “Fox and Friends.”

He also noted there is a really big Russia story developing, but that it involves Barack Obama, not Donald Trump.
