Wisconsin Plastics from Green Bay, Wis. is being sued by the Obama admin for firing workers who couldn’t speak English, stating “those skills were not needed to perform their jobs.”
The Obama admin also states that forcing people to speak English in the United States violates their civil rights, according to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Here’s the twisted explanation from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency that enforces the nation’s workplace discrimination laws; the Civil Rights Act protects employees from discrimination based on national origin, which includes the linguistic characteristics of a national origin group. Therefore, according to this reasoning, foreigners have the right to speak their native language even during work hours at an American company that requires English.
Requirements of English fluency and so-called English only rules are often implemented to make what is really discrimination appear acceptable, says the government attorney handling this case. “But superficial appearances are not fooling anyone,” he assures. “When speaking English fluently is not, in fact, required for the safe and effective performance of a job, nor for the successful operation of the employer’s business, requiring employees to be fluent in English usually constitutes employment discrimination on the basis of national origin — and thus violates federal law.”
Under President Obama the EEOC has taken a number of unprecedented actions to protect foreigners in the workplace, including illegal immigrants. In 2009 the agency issued a controversial order making a workplace English rule illegal. The directive came after the EEOC bullied a national healthcare firm to pay nearly half a million dollars to settle a discrimination lawsuit in which the government alleged that Hispanic workers were punished for speaking Spanish.

I always thought English was our National language & has been since the early 1700’s or maybe earlier. People who comeh ere should learn ENGLISH. It shouldn’t be the other way around like the Progressives are trying to force down our throats. !!!!!!!
What will be your reaction to some type of danger if you can’t understand the one giving the warning? No matter if it is in a plant or any were ells you are injured or dead! What is needed is one language for the good of all. A second or more knowledge of language’s never hurts.
This government has gone too far. America is an English speaking country. English should be required. When communication breaks down so does government. That is what has happened in Washington. The government is not hearing what the will of the people is, only what the will of the monied people is.

Aren’t we then punishing the employers by forcing them to waste time and money making their firms multilingual. All jobs and safety are dependent on communication. The companies will have to hire translators to relate the simplest orders to every non English speaking employee. Every job is dependent on understanding. It is almost like saying a delivery job where a truck is needed to make the deliveries shouldn’t require a drivers license if the person can kind of drive.
Again the government is overstepping its duties and bounds. They should be advancing the needs of the American citizen rather than the needs of the non citizen. If they are here legally then why can they not speak American? My great grand parents came to this country and learned to communicate. My grandparents came to this country and learned English(American). If you wish to come here and be legal why should I learn your language. You have decided to come and live here. So it is up to you to learn the common tongue. If I moved to Germany I would be expected to learn German. It is just being considerate to learn to communicate in the host countries language.
