Of course, as it turns out, EPIX insists that it’s decision to pull the film from its website had nothing to do with the controversy over it’s creator’s journalistic integrity. While it is certainly possible that the choice was motivated entirely by technical reasons and not by political or even ethical ones, one can’t help but find it hard to believe that the revelation that the movie blatantly misrepresented an exchange between Couric and gun owners to strengthen its case played no role in that choice:
“‘EPIX explained the situation to the Washington Examiner in a statement saying, ‘As of today, the doc moves out of the premium window – off of EPIX – and into a transactional and [electronic sell-through] window. This is part of the original agreement struck when we acquired the doc,’ she added. ‘The distribution strategy allowed us to premiere the doc on the network and also preserve maximum value for the transactional VOD and EST windows that follow.’”
