The warm summer months never last forever. Soon it’s time to look for a way to bring a little extra warmth into the home and this simple solar heater is a great project to do just that. It’s made of metal cans, steel or aluminum, and can produce a surprisingly strong and consistent airflow upwards of 140F.
Even on a heavy snow day you’re looking at somewhere around 75-85F.
Best of all, this simple project requires just a few common parts and many of them can simply be re-purposed from your regular recycling. Watch the project come together in the fully-detailed video on the NEXT PAGE:

That design is all wrong
Solar works when sun shines. Simple. But why not? Burn wood or methane when needed. Going off grid is possible, and anytime you can DIY is good. Living naturally requires flexibilty. Not same as flip switch turn on furnace.
Cool ideas
Going off the grid is admirable. But get real, you need to lower your expectations considerably…. For now.
The board that I need is called what I’m not familiar with sizes?
Sherry it is a 1″ by 4″ pine or cedar
Excuse possible stupidity, but a heater is really only needed when its cold out, this thing sitting outside in 0 degree temperatures or worse, how does the cold affect the heat it attemps to collect? at what outdoor temp are you getting these heat readings?

A black trash bag and a milk create work just the same. Does no good if the sun isnt shining.
