The warm summer months never last forever. Soon it’s time to look for a way to bring a little extra warmth into the home and this simple solar heater is a great project to do just that. It’s made of metal cans, steel or aluminum, and can produce a surprisingly strong and consistent airflow upwards of 140F.
Even on a heavy snow day you’re looking at somewhere around 75-85F.
Best of all, this simple project requires just a few common parts and many of them can simply be re-purposed from your regular recycling. Watch the project come together in the fully-detailed video on the NEXT PAGE:
Hurry the zombies are coming!
ok. i watched the vid.. is it me or is the person building the box drilling the holes with the drill in reverse??!! and why not use the drill to run the screws in? seems like it would work i built a hot water heater back in the 80’s on the same princible but if yer going to do a vid on something dont be a putzz.. lol.
may be just the way it was vidded out.
This really does work and can keep a fairly good sized room warm…as long as there is sun hitting the cans… Fun project…
Leaves a lot of details out!
I’m sure it works great if you want to heat a room in the hot summer sun! In the winter sun, when its 10 degrees….not so much.
Have seen 3 of these in action out in the high desert. They only work if there is no wind in the winter time. If there is even the slightest breeze it destroys all the nice thermally heated air inside. I have even seen people try and place them inside of both plexi glass and regular non thermal coated glass. This only works if you then put it on a tripod that will follow the sun to eliminate glare. The last one I seen the couple turned their entire south facing part of their house into a can solar heater. They gave up on using it for heating but in the summer time the hot convection air created will cook a turkey in just over 6 hrs LOL
John Van Nes is this what that tweaker time continum thing was?
Are you going to make one of these for me?
Heh Jerry Monaghen this is almost like the metal one you made!
