The warm summer months never last forever. Soon it’s time to look for a way to bring a little extra warmth into the home and this simple solar heater is a great project to do just that. It’s made of metal cans, steel or aluminum, and can produce a surprisingly strong and consistent airflow upwards of 140F.
Even on a heavy snow day you’re looking at somewhere around 75-85F.
Best of all, this simple project requires just a few common parts and many of them can simply be re-purposed from your regular recycling. Watch the project come together in the fully-detailed video on the NEXT PAGE:
Think I will make one out of rain gutter
These cans will get pretty hot, so, if it is a concern for you, might want to use cans that are not lined with coatings containing BPA (bisphenol A). Campbell’s cans still mostly contain BPA.

First spend your energy sealing and insulating your house. This will be more efficient at saving energy.

No mention of how to power the fan, where to place your solar collector. Help me out here. I could use this when camping in my tent. Thanks!
You should paint them flat black for better results.
I started collecting for this (after seeing this vid) about 2 weeks ago.the Fan is powered by a small solar array. just connect the “hot” and “cold” wires… typically, they’re red and black correspondingly. As for solar panel placement, if you attach it to your “heater” then make sure you do so in a way to maximize your solar visibility. if you plan on building one of these for your home (mobile, camper, etc) and you want to wire in a hard-switch for it on the inside, then you can (in theory) extend the hot line to and through your indoor switch, then back to the solar array (or the cold wire, should you choose so). and for those of you in the colder regions or for winter, don’t forget to insulate your duct work to reduce heat loss.
