The warm summer months never last forever. Soon it’s time to look for a way to bring a little extra warmth into the home and this simple solar heater is a great project to do just that. It’s made of metal cans, steel or aluminum, and can produce a surprisingly strong and consistent airflow upwards of 140F.
Even on a heavy snow day you’re looking at somewhere around 75-85F.
Best of all, this simple project requires just a few common parts and many of them can simply be re-purposed from your regular recycling. Watch the project come together in the fully-detailed video on the NEXT PAGE:
I did this for a science experiment about 4 years ago and I made it to state with it.
If it’s snowing the sun isn’t typically out… plus if it’s cold and in the sun yeah the cans will get warm but you’ll loose a lot of heat through radiation of the cold winter air around it. Still neat. Practical for warming a small room, probably not. Better off with a small electric/propane space heater
Hollie Hirst check this idea out!
Great for the hunting blind!
They did a comparison of this unit and one that uses “black window screen”. The window screen unit was easier to build, had less losses and heated better.

“Bury about 100 ft of 6-8 inch pipe atleast 3 feet under ground hook fan up circulating airr thru it. it will cool in summer and warm in winter and probably work alot better than this the groun bellow frost line usually stays between around 65-70 degrees. This vontraption might warm a dog house”

Grant carfare said if it’s snowing the sun isn’t out lmfao does it go away for a day? Even on cloudy snowy days the sun is out bro the uv rays are just blocked more..
We built one of these for our chicken coop. It’s not perfect, but for supplemental heat it works great. We used a small fan from an old computer and a solar panel to push air through.
