Here’s a video on how to make an emergency water filter backup from common household items. This DIY water filter is conveniently small so having a couple for backup is still quite easy to bring along.
Always follow traditional safety standards when handling or drinking water that might contain harmful bacteria or other pathogens.
I will stick with my secret invention of instant beer. It sterilizes the water as it turns to beer.

“If the purpose of the cotton is simply to filter out sediment to use water treatment tabs, skip the cotton balls and use a coffee filter. Carry a collapsible funnel to place the filter in and to direct the water collection. This would only remove sediment to treat with chlorine or iodine tabs.”

Hmmmm …. I never thought it was all that much trouble to carry a second filter cartridge …… and I’ve manufactured filter set ups which accomplish the same as his from either locally available materials, or material which I was carrying anyway.
Take a few minutes, sit down with your gear, and see if you can’t do the same.
I’m pretty sure that you’ll be able to do it …..

Thank you, I like this!
Why mess with the cotton balls, coffee filters, etc… I use a percolator anyway. Boil in the percolator without coffee grounds. Cleans sediment and sterilizes at the same time. Cool, then poor in your water jug.

“Why don’t you just drill the holes in the bottom of the pill bottle and not a big hole? You could get the tight seal without the cap and what is the second bottle cap for? If all you need is a pill bottle and cotton? This video is both simple and confusing.”
