It is statisticsĀ like this that makes it abundantly clear that the criminal justice originally envisioned by the Founding Fathers has become a farce, a parody of what it used to be. A horribly unfunny parody at that.
There are 2.2 million Americans currently behind bars, for whatever reason, today. While such a statistic might be read as indicating 2.2 million criminals are imprisoned, consider this: out of these 2.2 million, around 2 million have never received a trial, fair or unfair, for their alleged crimes.
That means that only 3% of the people in American prisons have actually been found guilty before their peers of breaking the law. The rest, only God and the government know because they’ve never been brought before independent juries and judges.
It is entirely possibly that some, or even a lot of the people currently being held without trial have committed crimes, but this is exactly why the Constitution guarantees the right to a fair and speedy trial. That way, the guilty are punished and the innocent are protected, instead of having the innocent lumped in with the guilty and treated as such.

Most of those in jail without a trial are repeat offenders. It is unlikely that they are innocent.
It is only shocking because it is 95% false!
Plea bargains they threaten with big sentences to get you to plead to s lesser charge. Take everything to trial .
Not shocking at all – it’s called “plea bargaining”. This tactic is definitely abused though.
new PRESIDENT MUST RESTORE THIS JUSTICE SYSTEM OF OUR COUNTRY.
Bull c**p, prisoners have more rights than the average citizen.
yeah so you mean”people were caught in the act””have evidence against them”plead guilty”abominable!how can this injustice go unpunished?
That meets a criteria by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for indictment for Crimes Against Humanity. Many instances of collusion between judges, prosecutors and private incarceration corporations. Perhaps a little time in an orange jumpsuit and a stay in the gray bar hotel?
Has been for years, The rich get justice, the rest go to jail.
Look at that horse abuse case down in Houlton, people been complaing about it for more than 3 years, the authorities refuse to even allow an official investigation into it.
