Last May, the IRS revealed that hackers, they call a criminal syndicate due to it’s sophistication, had gained access to over 100,000 tax returns using stolen data. According to the IRS, that number was far less than the true numbers recently discovered by a more thorough review.
Instead of 100,000, the actual number was closer to 390,000. And a whooping 600,000 attempts to hack accounts, indicating a very large group of criminals possibly in different Countries and locations. Alarming, is that the hackers were so successful at gaining access to the IRS, and the IRS was unaware for quite some time. What about the data of individual citizens they obtained?
