Crusading Lawyer Begins Process to Have Comey Disbarred

While he’s no longer doing any sort of government work, per se, outside of the occasional Congressional hearings and testimonies, former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) James B. Comey is finding himself the center of yet another controversial court case involving himself and his ability to make a living for himself, post-civil service.

A Maryland lawyer, Ty Clevenger, is now filing to push the United States courts to rule that because of the misconduct in which Comey participated when it came to the conduct of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email scandal, he should be disbarred and never allowed to again practice law.

While this may be a long shot, with Comey’s appearances scheduled before the Senate Judiciary Committee, it sets up the question of how appropriate it is for presidents and secretaries of state to have their law licenses pulled, but somehow, the former Director of the FBI gets a free pass.

A crusading lawyer filed a bar grievance this week accusing former FBI Director James Comey of lying to Congress and destroying potential evidence in the Clinton email scandal, in a process that could end up costing him his law license.

Ty Clevenger filed the grievance in New York, where Mr. Comey was a former U.S. attorney and is licensed to practice law.

Mr. Clevenger said Mr. Comey’s testimony to Congress that he did not predetermine the outcome of the FBI’s probe into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is belied by revelations this week that he in fact started drafting an exoneration months before even speaking with Mrs. Clinton.

“Insofar as Mr. Comey gave materially false testimony to Congress, it appears that he violated Rules 1.0(w), 3.3(a)(1), and 8.4 of the New York Rules of Professional Conduct,” Mr. Clevenger wrote.

He also asked to renew grievances in New York against former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, saying Mr. Comey’s claim that she tried to pressure him to downplay the Clinton probe should subject her to scrutiny.

As you can see, he has not left out the possibility of also nailing former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, possibly one of the most corrupt AGs yet, even eclipsing the many foibles of Eric Holder, her predecessor.  Let’s not forget that she was instrumental in the nearly-successful attempt to federalize the entire nation’s police force.  If that had occurred, we would be in a world of hurt right about now.

As it is, she was actually on her way to perform yet another serious review of a police force in Arizona when she was tagged at the airport on the tarmac in her own plane by former President Bill Clinton in order for him to speak with her about their “grandchildren.”  Yes, of course they did.  It certainly had nothing to do with the fact that his wife was under a very serious investigation with national security implications.  Oh, Lord, no.

The state grievance committee had deferred an investigation in January, saying there were ongoing probes by Congress and they would await the outcome.

Mr. Clevenger said this week that those probes appear to be over, so the time is ripe to renew the investigation.

He also pointedly warned the commission not to play political favorites, reminding them they disbarred former President Richard Nixon for his behavior while in office.

Mr. Clevenger is also challenging the bar membership of Mrs. Clinton’s lawyers, and has won a court order in Maryland demanding the grievance committee there conduct an investigation into David E. Kendall, Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson over allegations they destroyed evidence in the email probe.

This lawyer, Clevenger, may be successful in moving this issue forward, but two facts remain.  One is that this will, as demonstrated above, barely impact Comey because, as has been shown with the Clintons, it doesn’t appear to slow down their forward momentum.  And two, if I were Clevenger, I’d tread lightly.  This is, after all, a veteran former Director of the F-B-Friggan-I!  He still has MANY friends left in that organization and, as has been overtly demonstrated, has been willing to use them over and over to his advantage, not the least of which has been in attempts to embarrass our president through massive amounts of leaks.
