Police soon will have a new tool to use in their crackdown on texting or using a cellphone while driving. The device enables them to review smartphone data at the scene of a traffic stop or accident to determine if the phone distracted the driver.
Legislation is needed to permit such an invasion of privacy, which has privacy advocates very concerned about the latest potential intrusion by the government.
The proposed law would basically create a situation in which the government would access private information without the benefit of a search warrant. If police come to your home to access your computer or cellphone, they must have a warrant. So, why should your car be treated differently? There are constitutional safeguards in place that must be addressed.
Find out how the device works, which states are considering allowing its use by law enforcement, and how privacy advocates are responding. The story unfolds on the next page.
They can’t get it without your consent or a court order
Unless they have rewritten the constitution
The 4th amendment covers it
Like the constitution matters anymore… It all hinges on the opinions of people in black robes legislating from the bench. People politically appointed by those that view the constitution as a burden, not a blessing.
The left doesn’t care about the consitution, Oboma made that clear.
Hell no Fukoff
Block it pocket
Is there an app yet to block them?
I already use apps for blocking my camera and my microphone.
This is a b******t story by some whiny$#%&!@*snowfkake the police still have to use the system except in California communist wealth where they don’t have laws just injustice
Since people are not guaranteed the right to drive, a state should be able do that is you accept their license. I don’t like the rule but you aren’t guaranteed the right to drive.
Good too many IDOITS driving down the road texting it is unsafe and unnecessary,if it is that damm important pull the flip over bunch of morons. They need to program cars so when the ignition is turned on all cell phones in the car are disabled!!!!
The ability to do this has been avail in the form of backup. The question is does Law enforcement have the right to do this just because you have an accident? I say no. And I have nothing to hide personally and do not text/FB while driving. For those who do have something to hide the law will then have you up on charges. But for thosr who have nothing to hide I resent the intrusion.
