Watch this video as a man, Andre Stockett, defends his rights at a routine traffic stop and police try everything they can to make him yield, even threatening to take their 2 week old baby to Child Protective Services, because he refused to show his ID.
Yes, this man could have shown his ID and perhaps avoided all the hooplah, but one should never be scared or to defend their rights, especially if they feel they might subject themselves to more of the same abuse if they do.
The incident happened in Sandusky, Ohio.
Typical overreach of law enforcement. Welcome to Obama’s police states of America.
What did happen to them?
What a show of abuse of a badge.
1) It’s obvious the real reason they were stopped is being a mixed race couple. This happens all the time in almost every state. White women with black men are pulled over frequently and checked for any violation the officer can invent just because the assumption is the woman is a prostitute.
2) the law in Ohio does require one identify oneself on request by the officer if he has any grounds for suspicion of a crime (any will do, they’re called a Terry Stop after the Terry v Ohio case that went to the Supreme Court about providing ID).
3) The officer was a jerk, the entire stop was clearly about harassing the people who were stopped, not about anything done wrong or crime being committed, the entire ‘crime’ assumption was fabricated for the purpose.
4) the citizen was also being a jerk, but with good reason, since he knew he was being harassed by the blue uniform for being black.
5) the threat to take the infant from the couple is grounds for a lawsuit since it amounts to an unlawful action of extortion and abuse of authority.
6) simply and politely explaining the correct interpretation of the Terry Stop law by a supervisor or the officer with a respectful tone should have helped defuse this, but it’s clear by the time anyone could have done so, it would not have. The officer had no grounds for approaching the passenger side at all.
So REDICULOUS, show your drivers license and move on. I am sick of people constantly rebelling against a simple ID request. What’s to be hiding. We had better be thankful for good police and not assume they are all bad. This has all been robbed up because of the racism Obama puts out.
Yeah, its legal to refuse to obey, but what’s the point? Show him your picture and off ya go. In this case you paint your own picture.
Know your rights. Excersise your rights.Don’t throw them in the face of every cop trying to do his job.
Well said, Mr. Kent Snyder.
It is the police’s right to ask for ID , correct!! People nowadays do not respect the police especially if you are a certain race ….come on show ID unless you have something to hide ..
99% of all traffic stops are illegal, NO Warrant, NO evidence of a crime. NO STOP. They violate the 4th Amendment on a regular basis. Stand up to them, lock your doors, close your windows and open your window about 2 inches. Do not give them anything they ask for, it’s your 5th Amendment right, also they will use it ( Drivers License, Registration ) against you in court, don’t give them a chance to take away your rights and by no means get out of your car no matter how loud and threatening they get.
