A police officer in Illinois flew into a rage with a driver who attempted to exercise his Constitutional rights at a random police checkpoint. Ryan Scott recorded this quite disturbing video as he was ushered into the checkpoint.
Scott defended his rights, stating that he was not obligated to give his driver’s license if he is not being detained or was suspected of committing a crime, the second officer went into a quite insane rage, ripping open the car door and yelling “YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU ARE OBLIGATED, GET OUT NOW!”

That kid is a moron looking for 5 minutes of fame. If you are driving a car on a public road, the police can ask to see your licence and insurance. (Both are required by law and it is required that you produce them on the request of a police officer.) None of the police officers ever said, implied, or acted like a crime had been committed. More than likely they were looking for drunk drivers and people with suspended/ no licence or that have no insurance. Once again everyone is blamed but the person causing the problem. Had he just gave them his licence/ insurance without the B.S., he would have been on his way and they would have went to the next person without a problem.
I can’t watch the video, can’t get past the Publishers Clearing House. Keep in mind many states have Identity Laws, which requires cops to identify each person they contact and reason for contact. So their required to ask for ID.
I agree with our constitutional rights but this was a little over the top, the guy was only aggravating the officer although he didn’t act professional, I would get ticked off too when someone is deliberately being an ass
land of the free better thing again these road checks remind me of russia or some other red country.
more evidence of the police state we live in.

The majority of the police dept have become bullies, acting as if they are above the average citizen, this cop makes me sick. Here’s a question, WHO IS MAKING SURE THAT THEY ARE FOLLOWING THE LA? no one, THATS WHO, SADLY NO ONE”

Stephanie this was the video I was telling you about.
This may be a great clip but your site is nothing but bait and switch and full of c**p advertisements.
I understand and appreciate much of the Tea Parties post but this one is insane. A simple safety check is not an infringement on a person’s rights. A simple polite, here’s my driver’s license and insurance card, is all it takes. The police are doing their job and were not trying to search his car or arrest him. His belligerent attitude was the problem. It is inconvenient for drivers but think about the other person. There might be a child in danger in the next car. There might be an illegal driver. There might be lack of insurance. There might be a child not properly restrained and that simple safety check might save that child’s life. This guy was trying to cause problems and he gives all conservatives a bad name.

-It’s NOT insane to a government bordering tyranny. It’s brave.
A simple safety check is not an infringement on a person’s rights.
-A mandatory “safety check”/random police check-point IS an infringement on a person’s rights.
A simple polite, here’s my driver’s license and insurance card, is all it takes.
-just because it is simpler to show your “papers” and be on your way doesn’t make the police in the right for asking for them without cause. A police check-point checks all those that travel that road at that time. Just traveling a road is not evidence of a crime so it’s not just cause to demand papers.
The police are doing their job and were not trying to search his car or arrest him.
-In all of the genocides of this world, the soldiers were only doing their jobs while committing atrocities. When your job is immoral, it’s the moral ones job to disobey. “Just doing my job” is a terrible excuse to do something you know is wrong.
His belligerent attitude was the problem.
-His attitude is a product of the problem.
It is inconvenient for drivers but think about the other person. There might be a child in danger in the next car. There might be an illegal driver. There might be lack of insurance. There might be a child not properly restrained and that simple safety check might save that child’s life.
-“He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.” – Benjamin Franklin
This guy was trying to cause problems and he gives all conservatives a bad name.
-This guy was not causing the problem. The problem was already created when the police asked for his papers without cause.
You are right-on, Louie, very well laid out and presented. What the freak is a “safety check point”? I think we citizens like to be safe from an invasive military state, as were our founding fathers when they gave us our Declaration and Constitution in the first place.
You are right on with your post here, Louie; point laid out and stated well. What the freak is a “safety check point”? We citizens want to be safe from an invasive military state, as did our founding fathers, that is why they gave us the Declaration and Constitution to begin with. More citizens need to stand up to the militcops and remind them who they work for.
You are right on here, Louie. Great points and laid out well. What the freak is a “safety check point? We citizens want to be safe from an invasive militarized police force running us down, as did our founding fathers, who gave us the Declaration and Constitution for just such an occasion. It is high time we citizens fought back against the militcops and make them know who they work for.
