New satellite imagery has shown that China may have started construction on a new aircraft carrier. This would be their second one, in addition to refurbished Soviet-era flattop they finished sea trials with last year. When the construction is finished, it’ll be China’s first carrier made in their country. But images leaked from The National Interest shows that it doesn’t look very much like a carrier at all, which is to be expected, considering that China doesn’t have the experience or skill to make anything like modern U.S. carriers. Perhaps this is why they’re so interested in hacking American intelligence.

The US has 306 carrier task force fleets(accompanied by destroyers, submarines, and amphibious assault ships). With LHA5’s ,LHA6’s and missle dock ships we have about 1000 other boats that carry some aircraft. That’s not to mention the quality of the aircraft they carry. The rest of the world combined if you count this ship has 17 carriers. Not task force fleets.Just carriers in most cases except for England. No need to hit the panic button,Lmao!!!!!
Boy! You are a special kind of fucking retarded, arn’t you…
Stealth aircraft ensure carrier’s will cary an important role for a long time to come. Combined with the latest antimissile technology. Don’t forget a laser travels at the speed of light and can hit multiple targets in rapid succession. We will indeed dominate militarily for a long time to come.
Makes me think they have aircraft that doesn’t need Runway
Mach 5 antiship missiles are useless against light speed point laser defense.
Oh, and then there are the electromagnetic rail guns that we’re about to deploy, can smoke a target well over the horizon before they knew what hit them.
The photo is of the one they bought from the Russians, the sister ship of the Kuznetsov. The Russians deemed catapults to be too expensive and opted for ramps intsead.
Anthony Louis Passanisi I agree that they have a definite major role. I think their anti-ship and anti-submarine roles are now greatly diminished. Not to say they are obsolete by any means, but their roles are going to become redundant so they will only be needed when we need a large presence of aircraft.
As more VTOL UCAVs are developed (like the Lockheed VARIOUS pictured) smaller flattops and even destroyers and frigates will be able to provide land attack and air superiority.
Matt Cox lasers are by far the most overrated and poorly understood weapons. They have several weakness such as a simple ablative coating can make t much harder for a laser to burn into a missile. Even if it takes an extra second per missile, a swarm will not be able to be stopped. A missile rotating in flight will be much harder to disable unless you target the nose, which may be difficult at range. Well networked missiles could have stronger shielding on some of them, so a farther missile will relay targeting data to the missiles that are almost impossible to stop with a laser.
Rail guns also have limits. Firstly, they require an immense amount of power. Only the Zumwalts and other very large surface ships can supply the power needed. Even then you cannot fire at maximum power continually.
That’s Japan’s
