9. Mark Sanford
In the summer of June, 2009, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford told his wife that he was going to hike the Appalachian Trail, but no one heard anything from him for several days. It was eventually discovered that Sanford had been away in Argentina visiting his mistress, Maria Belen Chapur. When news of his infidelity and irresponsible absence spread everyone was outraged, but Sanford served the rest of his term. He did resign in disgrace from his position as Chairman of the Republican Governors Association.
