Michael Korte and wife Laura Whitney from Glendora, CA face $500 in fines and even criminal action if they don’t turn their brown lawn green again, which died because they were trying to comply with California water regulations.
Don’t you just love the government’s ability to coordinate their activities?
On Tuesday — when the couple received the letter — state regulators authorized fines up to $500 for overwatering lawns.‘Despite the water conservation efforts, we wish to remind you that limited watering is still required to keep landscaping looking healthy and green,’ the letter stated.
It included pictures of the dead lawn with a red line through it, a weedy line similarly crossed out, and finally an uncrossed green lawn with a sprinkler.
‘It is telling me I’d better get my lawn green and I have 60 days to do it,’ Laura said.Ironically, on the same day the couple received the letter the State Water Resources Control Board gave local agencies power to fine for overwatering lawns to help reduce water consumption as the state is in the third year of record low rainfall.
Should the couple wish to improve their lawn they’ll likely have to water it every day.
‘It seems like you’ll be fined if you overwater but we will be fined no matter what,’ Laura said.
It’s all about money and control.
The gov talks out of both sides of their mouth

They need to spray there lawn green. Which a lot of people are doing in Cali!
It IS their lawn, right? Yet the officials are dictating how they will keep it? What happened to the land of the free and all that BS!?
can’t win with the liberals, damned if you do and damned if you don’t
I am so sorry that Ca government has put you in such a predicament. I know it is not hassle free or cheap to switch to a xeroscape yard, but it would solve all of your problems in future. Some white rocks, a few cactus or yucca…it can be done! And if they actually drag you to court, you can show intent, which might get them off your back!
