A Dakota fire hole requires much less firewood and burns more efficiently, producing hotter fires with less wood. This makes it a very valuable wilderness survival technique in places where firewood is scarce or requires much effort to obtain.
It also creates a stable platform that is very convenient for cooking.
The fire is concealed within a hole limiting the amount of visible light emitted and smoke is also decreased because the wood is burning hotter and more efficiently.
Been doing this since I was a kid. Great technique to use in the summer when you want to cook, but not burn up doing so. Small fire, heat focused on your cooking and not you.
You also MUST make sure that the hole does NOT contain any tree roots as they will burn underground even after you fill the hole…forest fire fighters will tell you that….root fires
Were none of you ever a Boy Scout or Girl Scout ??
Good to know.

Weird vibe with his little “friend” in the wife beater
I live in the UK….We just walk five minutes to McDonalds 😉
That IS a good method for making a lite meal or heating something up, But the guy is so boring and takes too much time on c**p he needs to just show what he IS doing and not explaining other stuff.
