A Dakota fire hole requires much less firewood and burns more efficiently, producing hotter fires with less wood. This makes it a very valuable wilderness survival technique in places where firewood is scarce or requires much effort to obtain.
It also creates a stable platform that is very convenient for cooking.
The fire is concealed within a hole limiting the amount of visible light emitted and smoke is also decreased because the wood is burning hotter and more efficiently.
Awesome
But we don’t have the same soils in Mississippi as they do in the Dakotas.
might not matter…….might even work in that red clay.
Interesting video, but I would prefer my Solo Stove.
Good video. The guy takes 10 minutes to give you 3 minutes of info. Besides that, it’s a good idea.
It works in Al. Use in my back yard.
It works in Mississippi to.
That is awesome!
if you let this fire burn down to just coals in an emergency , with a blanket thrown over you, will keep you warm while , say , waiting for help to arrive, also if you can find some rocks to put in the fire from the get go, they will also collect heat to keep you warm even longer, ….what do you think ? i keep one of those thermal blankets you can buy at walmart, in my kit, but in a pinch a crude lean to will work,
Cool
