BBC reporter Rupert Wingfield-Hayes recently spent time on the USS George Washington off Guam and came back to state that it is quite clear the US is preparing for war with China.
These preparations have actually been occuring for some time.

Wars are no longer the generic whatever war comes along we fight it. Wars today are tailors for a specific potential enemy. In the 1980s, we knew we would be embroiled in a Middle East conflict. We learned a dry river bed was a wadi in Arabic for example. So, training isnt just learning how to shoot, but how best to shoot, and the best “who” to shoot.

that’s what “war games” are….
We are not “practicing” for war, we are TRAINING for war. Would you want a navy that could not opperate because no one knew what to do ?? Unlike other nations, ours has volunteer personnel, our soilders and sailores sign up for only a few years, they are not in the force for life. The U.S. has to continually train new personel to replace those leaving the service. War is hell and people die in wars, therefor, we need to be prepared at all times to meet any threat, including from China !!!
With the drawdown in the fleets and expierienced crews squadrons, ordinance being scavenged for present operations I doubt it. The services are scavaging everything they have to keep steaming and flying. Operational percentages in Marine and Navy squadrons are straining to make 70% with less flight time to hold down the wear and tear. Doubt we could field enough carriers no less air assets for more than a couple sustained hotspots.
