The demand for a hike in hourly wages is one that’s been echoing across the country and heeded by a few with disastrous consequences. For example, the situation with Dan Price of Gravity Payment Systems in Seattle. He set his wage floor at 70,000 dollars a year and not only discovered it to be economically impossible, but also lost a lot of faithful employees because there was no gap in between those who worked hard for promotions and those that didn’t. Crazy right? It only makes sense that those who earned higher wages get paid just as much as those who haven’t. Now Walmart is learning this same lesson. By spending an extra $1 billion to raise employees wages and offer them extra training, they’re being forced cut their hours and even lay some of them off.

My sister in CA was telling me that they have cut all ‘holiday pay’ (time and a half for working holidays). They have cut all sick pay, and vacation pay. 32 hours is now considered FULL TIME, and you do not get more than 32 hours. AND they have increased prices on EVERY item in the store by at least 10%.
Sadly, no one remembers Walmart’s policy back in the 90s: They would sell you license to their name (for a $1M) as a 4 year lease. You had to build the store, pay for the goods to be shipped in (from Walmart) and cover all expenses. If your store did well, your lease was not renewed, but Walmart would come in and build a Super Center, leaving you with an empty building. If your store did poorly, then Walmart lost nothing. Does no one ever wonder why there are so many empty Walmart buildings sitting only a couple miles from a Super Center? When will people wake up?
If they would do their job instead of standing around talking with their co-woker instead of paying attention to the people who keep them working, maybe they would deserve a pay-raise…
