As Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno prepares to retire after a long and distinguished career, he said in an interview he has a few regrets. Odierno was one of the forces behind the successful “surge” in Iraq. Speaking with Fox News, the General indicated his recommendation that we leave a substantial standing force in Iraq on the order of tens of thousands would have prepared U.S. forces to respond to contingencies in the region.
Instead, his input was ignored in favor of a swift pull-out of the American presence. Did that have any influence on the loss of large parts of Iraq and the rise of ISIS? The General had several things to say on those matters.

Just more to kill once we get there!
Thank you for sharing!
I could have anwsered that
Could have all been avoided by not invading Iraq in the first place.

It amazes me when folks praise our military men and women for ‘ keeping us safe’. How are they ‘keeping us safe’? When has war been declared against these United States? The Cons$#%&!@*ution states that war is to be waged only for the ‘Common Defense’ of our nation only. This is primarily mentioned in the Preamble and Art. 1, Sec.8 of the Cons$#%&!@*ution. We have men stationed in over 150 plus countries and civil foreign wars are none of our business. What moral standard would we use to determine which side in a country is ‘good’ or ‘ bad’? Bringing these troops home would cut our national debt tremendously. We wouldn’t have wanted foreign nations to set up emb$#%&!@*ies on American soil and have sided with the Union during the Civil War. The Treaty Clause only allows free trade, travel, and diplomacy…not yoking with a country to help them fight wars that are none of our business.
