Sunday in Crawford County, Mich., a man reportedly called police to report a trespasser riding a dirt bike on his property. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they arrested the property owner, a veteran, charging him with felony assault with a deadly weapon. According to the man’s wife, Heather, the weapon in question was a shotgun, empty and open.
When officers with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department arrived on the scene, Heather says her husband held up the “open shotgun” with his left hand while holding the shell in his right hand to indicate the weapon was not loaded and assure officers he was not a threat.…
One of the deputies, identified by Heather as Shawn Schnoor, “fumbled” with his pistol and trained it on Donald, ordering him to get on the ground. Heather told TheBlaze it took her husband longer than the officer wanted because he has a badly injured back but he moved as fast as he could. Donald was handcuffed before police made their way to talk to the trespassing suspect.
The officers allegedly demanded that Heather delete the video she began filming after she realized they were arresting her husband. In the clip below, recovered with the help of software, you can see part of the event.
Donald was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault) “without intending to commit the crime of murder or to inflict great bodily harm less than the crime of murder.” He faces up to four years in jail and/or a $2,000 fine. Police have also confiscated his shotgun and hunting knife and are holding them as evidence in the case, according to Donald’s wife. The man on the dirt bike was allegedly issued a citation for trespassing by a conservation officer but was not arrested.
Details are still confused to some extent, but “the couple is outraged because “this is a man who was openly carrying an unloaded shotgun on his own property, which is legal in Michigan, and it’s even hunting season.””

we’re deemed a criminal the half-second too long it took to get on the ground. They want to criminalize everyone, thus ineligible to own a musket, making their job a whole lot easier.
that wont hold up in court
Complete bull$#%&!@* these cops now adage need ta be put in their place that seem to forget we pay their paychecks. Dumbass pigs
This is why no one has faith in our cops no more they get a badge an abuse there power
Similar thing happened to me here in Ohio, Cops was called over a domestic dispute, and they arrived then seen my guns which is always in the open, i was in bed when they got there and was almost half asleep, and i sleep with my gun, they ordered me to get up and i said no so they Tasered me 3 times, arrested me and took over 3000 dollars in guns and ammo, apparently my mother called them an hour after an arguement, i lost an Ar15 and a brand new Tri star 380 .
get glasses with a cam in it, they have sim cards and can record up to 8 hours, they wont know they are being filmed til it’s in court or on facebook
deleting evidence is a crime…cover up. sue them
Keep hiring those $#%&!@*tards to enforce their imaginary, and unconstitutional laws, and the people are going to start defending themselves the same way our forefathers did. Those deputies and that sheriff and states attorney all need to be fired and arrested for violating this mans civil rights, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and armed robbery. They feloniously assaulted the mans wife when they grabbed the camera, and committed armed robbery when the took the LEGAL shotgun and hunting knife, and committed kidnapping when they handcuffed him and hauled him away fro doing absolutely NOTHING WRONG. Perhaps the citizens of Crawford County should perform a citizens arrest of those deputies, the sheriff and the states attorney! Michigan needs the Castle Doctrine IMMEDIATELY. WAKE UP PEOPLE he did what the vice president said to do on national TV, except he didn’t actually discharge the weapon. It wasn’t even loaded so the cops can’t charge him with brandishing because he wasn’t pointing it at the trespasser.
I like the big round cop I’m the background
I see two major violations here by these poorly trained police.. They over reaction to a home owner having a shotgun. If they felt threatened in any way, they simple hold the gun until they are certain of the circumstances. The bigger one however is the theft of the camera.. Under no conditions do they have a right to order her to stop filming or to take control of the camera… This needs to go viral, it is too common.. If we are to spend this vast amount of money on police, we have a right to require they know fundamental law..
