AP Takes Fake News to New Low with False Report on EPA Meeting

In a bylined story by Michael Biesecker, the AP invented an imaginary meeting between EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and Andrew Liveris, CEO of Dow Chemical Company. The article read:

The Trump administration’s top environmental official met privately with the chief executive of Dow Chemical shortly before reversing his agency’s push to ban a widely used pesticide after health studies showed it can harm children’s brains, according to records obtained by The Associated Press. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt’s schedule shows he met with Dow CEO Andrew Liveris on March 9 for about a half hour at a Houston hotel.”

Note how the article made the point that the chemical can “harm children’s brains.” Typical liberal reporting, it’s all about the children.

Twenty days after the meeting was alleged to have occurred, Pruitt announced his decision to deny a petition to ban chlorpyrifos pesticide from being sprayed on food.

Biesecker reported that EPA scientists had decided that ingesting even “miniscule” amounts of the chemical left on food could harm the development of fetuses and infants’ brains. Of course, no specific scientists or official report were cited to back up the claim.

It’s more likely than not that Biesecker has no problem with murdering babies in utero through abortion.

Both EPA and Dow Chemical spokesmen denied any such meeting ever took place. The two men were supposed to meet, according to Pruitt’s official schedule, but were unable to because of scheduling concerns. Both were appearing at an energy industry conference as speakers.

Both the agency and company acknowledge that the men did meet briefly in public at the conference just to shake hands and get introduced.

After the fake news story ran on Wednesday, Breitbart News was able to confirm its inherent phoniness.

Administrator Scott Pruitt did not meet privately with Andrew Liveris, the CEO of Dow,” Liz Bowman, the EPA’s spokeswoman, told Breitbart News. “The AP article is inaccurate and misleading. Despite multiple attempts to provide the Associated Press with the facts, this article has not been corrected.”

Dow Chemical also issued comment that showed how false the AP story was.

I can confirm that a meeting between Andrew Liveris and Scott Pruitt never happened. The two were attending the same conference where an introductory meet-and-greet was scheduled with no topics specified. However that meeting never happened due to schedule conflicts. The two have never had a meeting and have never discussed any Dow products.”

AP initially refused to correct the story despite knowing by Thursday it was false. Finally, after pressure from Breitbart, the EPA and Dow, AP issued a corrected story early Friday evening.

The AP refused to do anything about its inaccurate reporting for two days, after the original piece was printed Wednesday. Now, Friday evening, the AP is admitting its original piece was wrong by running a new piece that completely undercuts the old one. And, finally, hours later after originally refusing to do it even on Friday evening, the wire service has issued a correction on the old piece.”

AP is still trying to cover up the fake news. It has not responded or refused to answer questions about those involved in the false reporting. To date, it’s not clear if the editors and reporter responsible for it will be held accountable, as happened in a recent similar scandal at CNN.

A number of mainstream media outlets are reeling right now, because of serious examples of fake news and media bias. Included among them are The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN and MSNBC.
