Often in libertarian mediums of discussion, the prison industrial complex and its implications on future generations is talked about. While it is true that the war on drugs greatly contributes to the mass incarceration here in the states, placing blame solely on poor drug policy isn’t helping the discussion that much.
In reality, there isn’t one clear cut reason as to why the criminal justice system is the way it is today. It’s a combination of poor policy decisions made over the course of the last half of the 20th century. One of the policies contributing to the amount of Americans behind bars is our embarrassingly long prison sentences.

We are too lenient on “criminals”. My thought, and this is one I have always believed in, if you “kill” someone, you do not deserve to live either, EXCEPT if that person was trying to kill you or one of your loved ones. All the drive-by shootings, they are the criminals, and definitely do not belong on the streets, but they do not belong in prison for the rest of their lives. They took lives, therefore, they should pay that same price. These are just my thoughts. But, I am “old school”.
Since when does America base the sentences on what other countries do. We were once a great and powerful nation, now we have slid down to bottom of the pack. Let’s pray a new President will bring our country back to greatness and out of the gutter.
Hmm so just don’t commit the crime? I feel like that’s the common sense solution to this problem

How is everything embarr$#%&!@*ingly longer when compared to the rest of the developed world? Why does what they do in their countries, matter to us here?
If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. If you don’t like the jail sentences here go break the law in another country. We won’t miss you.
