Often in libertarian mediums of discussion, the prison industrial complex and its implications on future generations is talked about. While it is true that the war on drugs greatly contributes to the mass incarceration here in the states, placing blame solely on poor drug policy isn’t helping the discussion that much.
In reality, there isn’t one clear cut reason as to why the criminal justice system is the way it is today. It’s a combination of poor policy decisions made over the course of the last half of the 20th century. One of the policies contributing to the amount of Americans behind bars is our embarrassingly long prison sentences.

WAAAAY too many “laws” in the U S. Estimates … over 3,000,000, so many that attempts to count them end in frustration.. Most are absurd. No one should be sent to jail unless they’ve caused HARM to a person or to property.
And it isn’t embarr$#%&!@*ing that we keep letting them in and out in and out ? It embarr$#%&!@*es me that we cut their sentences short and they come out and do the same thing or worse. I think maybe they aren’t long enough.
can’t do the time don’t do the crime
Deprive cops and corrupt government the satisfaction. Follow the law
Good!
Yeah land of the free, until you break our law’s, again, again, and again….they can rot in those cells…
Good…and they should be longer and the bar for the death sentence lowered…that way we can remove repeat criminals from society permanently….
And still the keep coming back.
America is a better country than the rest of the World so why do we need to be a follower we should lead!
