That North Korea is making steady progress in developing ever more powerful and reliable missiles was just demonstrated once again. One pressing question right now is what, if anything, is going to be done by other nations as a result. Those who know the answer to that question aren’t telling for obvious reasons.
Kim Jong-un clearly wants a reliable nuclear bomb that he can put on a reliable missile that he can send anywhere in the world. “Reliable” is emphasized because as we’ve often seen, with his missile tests anyway, that reliability is one thing his missiles often lack. He’s been the butt of jokes with the internet littered with memes making fun of the dictator and his missiles.
Joking over botched launches aside, this is deadly serious. North Korea is making progress with its missile program, although not without the occasional failure. Unimpeded, the country will eventually get it right and have an ICBM that can, in theory at least, hit the U.S. mainland. Once that is achieved, the game changes dramatically.
