The left may revel in the Obama administration’s decision to “punish” Russia for its alleged hacking of the presidential election, but they will not be so flippant once they realize that country has the ability to retaliate.
Ever since the wall came down and the Soviet Union collapsed, Democrats have laughed and jeered at any expression of concern over Russian behavior from conservatives. Indeed, Republicans were derided as “red-baiters” who were still fighting the Cold War whenever such concerns were voiced. Most famously, President Obama quipped that the 1980’s “want[ed] their foreign policy back” after Mitt Romney claimed that Russia under Vladimir Putin was our greatest geo-political foe.
Fast forward four years later, however, and liberals don’t simply believe that Russia is our number one foe, they believe they are the source of all their troubles and woes, so much so that they’re willing to risk war over it.
