A major decision that will impact Minnesotans’ privacy rights is waiting to be heard in the state’s court of Appeals.
It all started off simply enough. Jason and Jackie Wiebesick were a Golden Valley couple who lived in a duplex. One day, officials from the city approached them to ask permission to inspect their home. The stated reason was to collect information so as to make a decision over whether to renew the Wiebesick’s rental license.
Disturbed by the prospect of unfamiliar people walking around their home, the Wiebesick’s turned down the inspectors’ request. One might think it would have ended there, but the city saw to it that it didn’t.
Taking the case to court, Golden Valley authorities implored a county judge to issue a warrant overriding the Wiebesick’s objections and allowing them into the house. Tellingly, the judge refused their request for a warrant, prompting the city to reach even higher.
See video about the case on the next page:
No warrant, pass off.
I live though the similar bs by the Washington Bartlesville Oklahoma Drug addict task force, Robbie Melton, Eddie Virden and Frederic Esser. ILLEGAL raid hoping to find something to supply theirs and a couple of judges drug habits.
no warrant no search unless I want to let you by law anything they found should be inadmissible to use against them unless they allowed it
They do this in Turkey
so i guess that means we as citizen’s can walk into and check out any politicians home or office atleast in minnesota.
What the city wants to do is invade the privacy of residents. Being able to come and go at will in peoples residences is and should continue to be, against the law.
Just say no. There are legal requirements they must meet.
Nope! You will have to shoot me before you get access without a warrant. What the city is suggesting is illegal trespassing.
So stupid, why is this bull? You run your mouth but no evidence.
As an armed and competent citizen living in the sovereign State of Texas, I can assure you that I will not be the one shot if anyone tries to enter my castle without a warrant. I live in unincorporated Hunt County where there are no inspectors, no building codes and no BS. Permits are needed for septic systems, wells and building anything in a flood zone, but that is about it. My neighbor felt that those requirements were “big government”, “nanny state” rules, so she lives off grid without any of these privileges in a shipping container and a walled stack of earth-filled tires covered in stucco. More power to her.
