Decades after the 1979 storming of the US embassy in Iran, the Americans taken hostage in that incident are finally receiving compensation, but not from the people who victimized them.
Tacked onto the already-impossibly expensive omnibus spending bill, the “United States Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism” fund assures that all 52 survivors of the embassy attack will be compensated for their misfortune. The thing is, the ones doing the compensating are us!
Yes, the government really decided that after Iran took 52 Americans hostage and held for them over a year, the American taxpayer should be the one paying out $4.4 million to each hostage instead of making the government that facilitated their being taken hostage cough up the cash. This is to say nothing of the $600,000 guaranteed to the families of each former hostage.
Make no mistake: the hostages deserve financial compensation, but it should be the guilty party that provides it.

The Embassy was the US one in Iran when the Islamic leader came out of exile from Iran…..Iran was more modern…..it was American Ambassador and the American staff and the Marine guards that where held captive for a year….Carter wad President…..and it was not him but Reagan I believe that got them out they were held all of 1979…..and other embassies of ours in Pakistan were also attacked and that one was burned after murdering marine guards and taking violently the staff. One Sgt was doused with gas and burned to death.
